What is Your Favorite Thing About Traveling?

One of my favorite things about traveling is that it allows me to learn more about cultures around the world. I have traveled to several different countries in my life. Every trip has provided me with new ways of thinking. It reminds me to be thankful for my health, family and things I have. Currently I am learning two languages. I always travel whenever I get the chance to ensure that I enrich my soul and grow as an individual. I encourage more individuals to do the same if the opportunity is available.

Is Traveling Something You Consider a Hobby or a Lifestyle? How Did You Get Started?

As a Medical Doctor and Naturopathic Doctor, I travelled often. I furthered my education at numerous conferences as a student, guest speaker and presenter of medical studies I oversaw. I would constantly find new locations that would allow me to learn more about the culture of the area. I continue travelling as a speaker but have always considered it a luxury and pleasure. I enjoy learning about people and places.

What Are Some Travel Tips You’d Give an Inexperienced Traveler?

The most important thing that you can do before you travel is to research where you are going. If they speak a foreign language do some study before, starting with how to say hello, please and thank you. You want to make sure that the hotel you are staying in and the surrounding areas are safe. Learning your geography is important too. Despite Google and apps, learning about the local people and their town is more meaningful thru social interaction than electronically. Travelling should remind you that you are fortunate to travel and that not everyone and everywhere is the same as where you grew up. I always return with a feeling of gratitude towards my life and the things I have.

Where Would You Like to Go?

I have not had the opportunity yet to visit Spain. There is something about the culture that attracts me. Madrid, Barcelona and other cities have so much history and have experienced countless events over the centuries. I wish to visit some of the museums and learn more about its history. However, always when I travel, I enjoy interacting with the people and learning firsthand what it’s like to live there.

Where Would You Like to Revisit?

One of the most memorable places that I have visited was Houston, TX. Houston has an incredible medical industry and such a welcoming culture. Everyone there was incredibly friendly. The medical personnel are incredible, and I enjoyed working with them. The food is fantastic and should be visited by all foodies who are serious about gourmet meals. However, I could say the same for many cities worldwide.

Do You Travel Alone? Why?

My husband Duke has always been my best friend and biggest supporter. I am fortunate and grateful he wants to travel with me. After my father windowed my mom at such a young age, I was proud of her for travelling alone. I don’t know if I would have her courage and I pray I will never have to.

Do You Travel Light or Do You Pack Up The House?

I have always been about the bare necessities. I bring only what I need with me. This means that I am traveling light. When on a book tour or speaking, I bring extra books to autograph and give away.  I enjoy new places and try to leave room in my suitcase for souvenirs.
